Podcast Proverbs
SHORT DESCRIPTION
This activity has the purpose of finding similarities between peoples from very distant parts of the world, considered divided culturally, linguistically, as well as by heritage and history. These similarities are presented in the form of proverbs or sayings, which have survived for centuries and which are supposed to have shaped our cultures and the mentality of our peoples, as well as influenced our daily routine to a great extent.
EDUCATIONAL GOALS
This method aims to improve the intercultural understanding and global thinking of participants by presenting information that on the one hand speaks a lot about the culture of a certain nation or larger geographical area and on the other hand is strikingly similar to the world views of peoples from very distant territories.
The purpose of the activity is to demonstrate the global human memory and legacy, the fact that we are indeed an interconnected and interdependent system, covering the globe.
OF PARTICIPANTS
The podcast can be used at the discretion of the facilitator with groups of any size, as it can be used individually and then analysed in larger group.

20 minutes – the activity can be introduced at the beginning of a series of workshop sessions.

TOOLS
Computer or phone for listening to the podcast, stable internet connection, possibility for notes taking.
STEPS
Step 1 Conduct a discussion with the group online on the topic of global education and global connections and dependencies.
Step 2 Offer the participants the possibility to listen to a podcast of proverbs, outlining similarities between African and European proverbs.
Step 3 Conduct an online discussion on similar global patterns with groups from the two continents. Ask them to discuss heritage and to delve deeper into ancestral heritage.
